passed away at Silver Cross Hospital, Sunday, April 14, 2013. Age 88 years. Survived by her daughter Ina (Raymond) Brixey of Plainfield and her sister-in-law, Harriett Stutz of Joliet. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Frank Powell, Jr. (1999), three brothers Ernest, Robert and John Stevens, two sisters Alberta Ann Lindley and Rosemary Rodriguez and her parents, Francis and Rosalie Stevens. Martha was born November 16, 1924 in Mattoon, IL. She graduated from University High School in Normal, IL. She was a graduate of Silver Cross School of Nursing, Class of 1945. Martha retired from Will County Health Council as a Visitation Nurse. She also worked at Silver Cross Hospital for many years as a private duty nurse. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lockport and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Friday, April 19 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Gill Palmer officiating. Private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials to First Baptist Church of Lockport will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M.
