Obituary

Mary J. Goolsby (nee Sealy) Age 95. Passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Joliet on August 3, 1925, the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary Kate (nee Dunne) Sealy. She was along-time member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus and an active member for many years at the Joliet Elks Club. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, William D. "Doug" Goolsby (2008); her daughter, Mary Pat ( late, Wayne) Kalina; her son, William D. Goolsby Jr.; her parents, Thomas, J. and Mary Kate (nee Dunne) Sealy; and by her brothers and sisters, infant brother Brendan, Edward Sealy, Patricia Egdorf, Anne Woods and Veronica Viebelius. Survived by her children, John (Kathy) Goolsby, Richard (Mary Beth) Goolsby, Therese (Gary) Noha, James (Tracy) Goolsby, Daniel (Penny) Goolsby, Elizabeth (Gary) Lemke, Tim (Megan) Goolsby, Maureen (Dave) Swiersz and Christopher (Peg) Goolsby; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy (late, William Jr.) Goolsby; dear grandmother of 18 grandchildren and dearest great-grandmother of 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. We know Mom is now in Heaven with her loved ones. We are sure she was greeted by Jesus who gave her a hug and told her "Job well done good and faithful servant." Mom was a very loving wife, mother and grandma. Visitation for Mary J. Goolsby will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road Joliet on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. to the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home, especially, Daisy, Jean and Mary Beth and to Lightways Hospice (formerly Joliet Area Hospice) for their loving care to Mary during her illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's name to Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home or Lightways Hospice (formerly Joliet Area Hospice) would be appreciated.
