Passed away at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home with her family by her side, Saturday, July 23, 2016. Age 84 years. Survived by two sons Michael (Maggie) McDowell and John (Linda) McDowell. Four grandchildren Brandon, Brent, Connor and Niamh. Two brothers-in-law James McDowell and Jerald (Pat) McDowell. Two sisters-in-law Mildred Campbell and Dee McDowell. Her nieces and nephews Doug (Eileen) Campbell, Pam Romack, Lorna (Ron) Combs, Chris (Connie) Campbell and Arlene (Trevor) Sunderlag. Preceded in death by her husband Vernon E. McDowell (2011), Three brothers Daniel Campbell, John Campbell and Master Sgt. Frederick L.C. McDowell. Her sister-in-law Judy McDowell and Joyce Campbell. Mary was born May 7, 1932 in Joliet to John and Mary Ellen Campbell. Graduate of Joliet Township High School Class of 1952 and Graduate of Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1954. Mary was a nurse at Silver Cross Hospital from 1954-1961, she retired from Sunnyhill Nursing Home as Chief Supervising Nurse from 1976 – 1997. She was an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Choir where she also taught CCD and involved with Catholic Women's Association. Mary was active with her sons as a Cub Scout Den Mother and PTA at Chaney Monge Grade School. Mary's family would also like to extend thanks to the staff at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home for all their wonderful care. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 A.M. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M.
