Passed away at Silver Cross Hospital, Thursday, October 13, 2016. Age 78 years.
Survived by his wife Carol A. Boban (nee Morin), two sons Martin (Bobbi) Boban and Michael (Laurie) Boban. Seven granddaughters Tracee, Laura and Jamie Boban, Maggie (Greg) Mitchell, Mallory (David) Schutt, Melissa (Kyle) Boban-Ballerini and Michelle Boban. His brother Robert G. (Rene) Boban, Sr. and his sister Barbara A. (Karl) Astrom. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Milan J. Boban (1996) and Gretchen L. Boban (2005).
Mel was born June 8, 1938 in Joliet, IL. He attended Joliet Township High School. Member of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church. Mel was the owner and operator of Boban's Poultry and Porky's Dog House. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local #179 as a truck driver for the construction of Interstate 80 through Joliet. Mel was also a former sales manager at Fred Emich Ford before becoming owner and operator, along with his brother, of Boban Brother's Auto Sales.
Member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300, the Croatian Cultural Club and long time Will County Old Timers Baseball Association. Mel enjoyed spending time with his family and seven granddaughters at his vacation home in Door Co., WI. He was a 30 year White Sox season ticket holder and an avid racing fan, having sponsored many local racing teams thru the years. Attending the Indianapolis 500 with his sons and spending time with A.J. Foyt in his garage were two of Mel's favorite pastimes.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Monday, October 17th at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Leona Tichenor officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorials to Ingalls Park United Methodist Church will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M.
