Neil Edward Mason Neil Edward Mason, age 88, passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2022. Neil was born in Aurora, IL to the late Cornelius and Addie (Schliemann) Mason. He married the love of his life, Ruth Mohr on April 21, 1956, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. Neil and Ruth lived most of their lives in Joliet, IL where they raised their family, Cathy (Bill) Steckroth, Karen (Keith) Schwerha, Scott (Michelle) Mason, Julie (Phil) Hofmann. They were blessed with 7 grandchildren, Michael (Carol) Schwerha, Katie Schwerha, Matthew (Danielle) Schwerha, Sam Steckroth, Scott Steckroth, Skyler Mason, and Mason Hofmann; 7 great grandchildren, Lola, Annie, Reid, Elsie, Olive, Sloane, and Blaire. Also surviving are several nieces and a nephew. Upon graduating high school, Neil attended Joliet Junior College. He then proudly served as a navigator in the United States Air Force. He went on to graduate from the University of Illinois and enjoyed a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. Neil's real passion in life was always his family. He loved being involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Whether it was on the annual trip to Sanibel Island or sitting in his favorite chair in his house, Neil found happiness being surrounded by family and having a "pooch" sitting on his lap. Visitation will be held at Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home 2320 Black Road Joliet, IL. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM. A private burial will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution in Neil's name to Salvation Army-Will County (centralusa.salvationarmy.org/joliet) or the Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
