Passed away peacefully, Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Age 90 years. Survived by his four children Nancy (Paul) Martinucci, Dan (Deborah) McDermott, Ed (Bobbie) McDermott and Paul J. (Karen) McDermott; eight grandchildren Katharine (Ron) Palermo, Danielle (Charlie) McDermott, Kevin (Trisha) McDermott, Aaron McDermott, Cory (Elizabeth) McDermott, Jim McDermott, Colleen McDermott and Will (Johanna) Thomas; nine great-grandchildren Isabella and Ronnie Palermo, Brooke, Lorelei and Harley Rose McDermott, Molly and Lucille McDermott, Mila and Gavin Thomas; a daughter-in-law Karen McDermott of Florida and a sister-in-law Marnean Briese. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Upon his death he was reunited in heaven with the love of his life Eileen (nee Briese) McDermott, his adoring children Lori, Sharon and Phil McDermott; his parents Emmit and Catherine McDermott, a brother Les McDermott and two sisters Mary Zuberski and Lucille Babjak. Paul was a Veteran of the US Navy during WWII, longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond's, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 1080 where he was also a Past Commander and a member of the Paralyzed Veterans Association. Paul was one of the original board members of United Cerebral Palsy. Retired from APSA as a computer specialist. After his discharge from service he owned and operated City Service Gas Station on the corner of Raynor and Jefferson Street, whose moto was "From the Service to Service You". He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and working on cars. Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 9:30 AM to the Cathedral of St. Raymond's for a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10:00 AM.
