Of Elwood, passed away at her residence, surrounded by her loving family Monday, February 25, 2013. Age 82 years. Survived by her children Sharon Delehanty of Elwood, Judith Bartels of Joliet, Linda (Paul) Bostjancic and David W. (Nancy Terlep) Bartels both of Elwood and Gail (Guy) Cornwell of Tallahassee, FL. Eight grandchildren Charles M. Delehanty, Christopher (Rhonda Dickerson) Delehanty, Paul M. (Amanda Seidelmann) Bostjancic, Scott, Stacy and Kelly Bartels, Greg Cornwell and Kristin (Andrew) L'Esperance. Five great-grandchildren Trevor Delehanty, Nicole Morey, Nicholas, Madison and Aiden Bostjancic. Her brother Charles R. "Dick" (Joan) Pettigrew. Her sister-in-law Jean (James-deceased) Murphy and Helen (Edward) Woods. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends, especially Terry Robinson Preceded in death by her husband Glenn E. Bartels (1999) and her parents Charles and Isabelle Pettigrew. Phyllis was born March 8, 1930 in Joliet. She graduated from Joliet Township High School Class of 1947, Joliet Junior College and the Art Institute of Chicago. Member of First Presbyterian Church in Joliet. Phyllis was an artist and taught classes at her studio in oil, watercolor and pastel painting. Member of the Pastel Society of America and the Water color Society of Illinois. She was also an avid naturalist and worked with the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie to develop a nature preserve on her property. Lying in state at First Presbyterian Church, 805 Western Ave., Saturday, March 2nd from 9:30 A.M. until time of services at 10:00 A.M. Rev. Dr. Craig W. Herr officiating. Interment Elmhurst Cemetery. Memorials to the Children's Garden of Elwood or Joliet Area Community Hospice will be appreciated. Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Rd., Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M.
