Porfirio "Pilo" Guzman – passed away at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Friday, September 24, 2021, with his family by his side. Age 82 years.
Survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Josefina (Martinez) Guzman, his son Porfirio (Elizabeth) Guzman Jr., daughters Laura (Apolonio, Jr.) Esquivel, Eva (Ruben, Jr.) Martinez, Yesenia Mojica and Sonia (Juan) Torres; 11 grandchildren Alyssa and Julissa Esquivel, Giselle, Vidaliz and Jolie Martinez, Joel and Melody Mojica, Serena and Alejandro Guzman and Marco and Noah Torres. His sister Fortunata Guzman Ruiz and his little Yorkie, Mia. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Porfirio was born on September 15, 1939, in Villa Juarez, SLP, MX. He moved to Joliet, IL in 1967.
Preceded in death by his parents Jose Carmen and Gertrudis (Ruiz) Guzman, one sister Ildefonsa Guzman, brothers Juan and Zeferino Guzman and son-in-law Carlos Mojica.
Porfirio proudly retired from Herlihy Mid-Continent Co. after over 30 years of service. He was dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi throughout his life. Porfirio was a hardworking man, with a strong work ethic, never missing a day of work. Strong-willed man, devoted to his family, with a generous giving heart. He loved entertaining and hosting his family and friends. He loved baseball, playing dominoes and was an avid boxing fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, Friday, October 1st at 9:15 A.M. to Holy Family Catholic Church, Brook Forest Avenue,
Shorewood at 10:00 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30th from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. Face coverings will be required for all attending.
