Obituary

Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Thursday, March 18, 2021. Age 88 years. Survived by his children Lynn (Ric) Sarna, Lorri (David) Tibble, Douglas (Terri) Ceci, Elizabeth "Beth" (David) Farmer and Janet (David) Schmitt. Twelve grandchildren Robert (Erica) Bauerle, Thomas (Amy) Bauerle, Laura Bauerle, David (Michelle) Tibble, Justin (Kristen) Tibble, Amy (Kevin) Brooks, William (Alison) Ceci, Bradley (Elena) Ceci, Brian (Megan) Ceci, Breanna Ceci, Danielle (Thomas) Babineau and Dylan (Andrea) Schmitt. Twenty-six great grandchildren. His brother Edward Ceci. Preceded in death by his beloved wife and soulmate Dorothy M. Ceci (Dec. 2020), his parents Edward and Genevieve (nee Lantz) Ceci. A brother Leo Ceci and his sisters Shirley Garcia and Patricia Pelton. Richard was born in Joliet on September 6, 1932. He attended Joliet Township High School, leaving high school to help his parents support their family. In 1950 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving tours in Germany and Korea, where he was awarded two purple hearts and numerous service awards. Returning from the service he met the love of his life Dorothy, they married on April 16,1955. Richard worked several years at Fisher Body. He retired from the U.S. Postal Services. After retirement, Richard enjoyed working for Salem Village driving their activity bus. He also enjoyed working in his yard and playing cards with good friends. He was an avid golfer who achieved 3 holes-in-one, the last at the age of 86. He was a member of several bowling leagues. Ricard was honored to volunteer his time serving and supporting his fellow veterans at Stone City V.F.W. Post #2199. Life member of First Lutheran Church and member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #300. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and Fighting Illini. Richard was also a father figure to many of his children's friends. You never left his home without being fed. Richard's family would like to extend their appreciation to Kindred Hospice for their care and compassion. Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Tuesday, March 23rd at 10:00 A.M. Chaplin Sarah Sainsbury officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
