Richard grew up in Glenview, Illinois. His family later moved to Chicago and he attended Taft High School. There he met his future bride Iris, truly the love of his life, this year having celebrated 70 years of marriage. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953. He served his country during the Korean War and continued his military service with the Illinois National Guard. He began his lifelong career as a carpenter's apprentice, eventually becoming a proud member of the Chicago Carpenters Local Union 1185.
Richard faithfully served in his church. Dick and Iris worked and ministered for many years around the world, especially in the country of Haiti.
He loved baseball, especially his Chicago Cubs. He loved the Andy Griffith show, which made him laugh no matter how many times he watched an episode.
He was known as a dependable handyman able to fix most anything. He was very tenderhearted and loved to put others before himself, always ready to help. His faith in the Lord was most important in his life and he will be fondly remembered by his family each Christmas Eve for his infamous reading of the Christmas Story in the Book of Luke.
