Richard T. Walsh

Passed away peaceful on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Silver Cross Hospital. Age 80.

Richard's life was marked by a deep commitment to education and music. He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University, followed by a Master's Degree in music from Northern Illinois University. Richard further pursued his passion for music by earning a Doctorate in Music Education from the University of Illinois.  Richard dedicated over two decades to higher education, working for 22 years at the University of Chicago, as well as serving at the University of Illinois and Northern Illinois University. He was an accomplished organist, sharing his musical talents with numerous Catholic and Methodist churches throughout the years. A member of Trinity United Methodist Church and Ingalls Park Church, Richard's faith and community were central to his life.

Richard is survived by his loving nieces and nephews Wayne J. Richie Jr., Kimberly Dallavia, Timothy Dallavia, James Dallavia, Lynnette Dallavia, Jaimie Feril, Melissa Mitchell, and Tamara Corbin. He also leaves behind special friends Omar McClurg and Alex McClurg.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents John P. Walsh, Mary J. Walsh. His siblings Marilyn K. Walsh (2024), John P. Walsh (2018), Nancy Richie (2013) and Beverly Ernest (2010). His niece Laurie Blanticky (2021), and nephew Daniel Richie (1996).

Lying in state at Ingalls Park United Methodist Church 105 Davison St., Saturday November 30th from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Leona Tichenor officiating. Inurnment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory.
