Robert E. "Schaf" Schaffnit Jr. – Age 70, a lifetime member with Local 150 operating engineers as a crane operator and lifelong resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Loyola University Hospital, Wednesday, August 24, 2022.
Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Shirley (Koch) Schaffnit, whom he married at St. Bernards Church in Joliet. His children Regina Croxton, Robert (Tiffany) Schaffnit III, Ashley (Clinton) Phillips. His grandchildren Hayden Croxton, Dillon Schaffnit, Sydney Wildy, Sylas Schaffnit, Hunter, Trever and Ethan Phillips. His sibling Gary (Gene) Schaffnit.
Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Maxine Schaffnit Sr. and sister Victoria (Russ) Doyle.
Bob was a Proud U.S. Marine serving in Vietnam. He loved to travel, go camping and spend time in the tractor. He had so many close friends that he would always run into someone he knew and enjoyed spending time with them. Bobs greatest love was his grandkids, he would never miss a sporting event, school function or those phone calls asking him how to fix something. Family was everything to him, he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Wednesday, August 31st at 11:00 A.M. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
