Robert E. Skoien Sr. Age 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the home of his son. Born in Joliet on September 18, 1934, he has resided in New Lenox for many years. He was an Army veteran serving in Germany from 1957 to 1959. He worked for Barrett Hardware at Jackson and Henderson for 40 years, as well as, Sears Roebuck for 17 years. Member of the Elwood Masonic Lodge and the Elwood Eastern Star. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Esther (nee Rutter) Skoien, his step-father, Daniel O. Skoien Sr.; two step-brothers; two step-sisters; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Burton and Marie Gillette and a brother-in-law, Ronald Gillette. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Karen (nee Gillette) Skoien; his son, Robert E. (Christine) Skoien Jr.; his daughter, Jodi (John) Tucker; three grandchildren, Robert, Ronald and Geneva Marie Tucker; one sister, Jean (Ralph) Schmidt; two brothers, Virgil Wayne (Jean) Skoien and Thomas (Lilly) Skoien; one step-brother, Donald Baber; one brother-in-law, Paul (LaWanah) Gillette Sr. and sister-in-law, Lynetta Britton; numerous nieces, nephews, step-nieces, step-nephews and cousins also survive. A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene 1009 South Briggs Street in Joliet on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3:30 PM. Per Robert's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name to the First Church of the Nazarene would be appreciated.
