Passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights on Tuesday, October 28, 2014. Age 66.
Survived by his niece and god-daughter Molly Garbrecht; a sister Nancy Garbrecht; a brother Stephen (Amelia) Gerencir and two nephews Anthony S. and Richard L. Gerencir.
Preceded in death by his parents Stephen J. and Edith (nee Trautner) Gerencir.
Graduate of Joliet Township East High School Class of 1967, received his Bachelors in 1971 from Illinois State University and his Masters in education from National Lewis University in 1989. Retired art teacher from Romeoville High School and Hubert Humphrey Middle School.
Member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the Chicago Art Institute, Illinois Retired Teachers Association and the Joliet Area Retired Teachers Association.
Being an art teacher, Roger enjoyed the vibrant colors. The family is requesting that all relatives and friends wear Roger's favorite color orange.
Funeral services will be held from the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2320 Black Road, on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 9:30 Am to St. Jude Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials to Midwest Hospice, 800 W. Central Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005. Visitation Sunday from 3-7 PM.
