Obituary

Ronald L. Berg passed away after a battle with cancer on June 30th, 2024 at the age of 88. While he raised his family on Burke Dr. in Joliet, making many dear friendships that spanned decades, he spent his last years in the home of his daughter in Wilmington, IL. There he was able to spend even more quality time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was surrounded by family, including his wife of 67 years, Janet (Speicher) Berg, and his three children, Jeffrey (Deanna) Berg, Kimberly (Michael) Mancuso, and Dawn Berg during his final days and moments.

His legacy leaves behind 10 grandchildren he cherished- Nick (April) Mancuso, Jason (Haley) Berg, Joshua (Laura) Wynn, Michael (Shera) Mancuso, Paul Sowa, Tyler (Amanda) Mancuso, Myles (Janelle) Berg, Jalea (Cody) DeGrush, Gina (Jake) Murphy, and a "special daughter", Haley (Nathan) Bilthius. His 24 great-grandchildren adored their "Papa Berg" and we are so grateful for the time they had together. His family describes him as someone who was "always there"... he was always at the ball field or a seat in the gym, taught them how to catch and clean fish, went on long bike rides, took them on trips out west to ski, fish and explore, he was present at every holiday, birthday, wedding, etc. He could always be counted on for a warm home-cooked meal, a ride, a favor, a place to land. His talents in wood-working and his artistic abilities mean we all have countless treasures to remind us of him. Our annual Berg-Mancuso Christmas gathering often led to a friendly bit of competition as to whom would go home with the special handmade item he would put in the gift exchange.

His death reunites him with his parents, Lucille and Lawrence Berg and his brother, Lawrence (Carol) Berg Jr. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law's Jim and Debbie Speicher and Don and Kay Koppen and many cherished nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Joliet, IL, he loved reminiscing of his years designing and creating the scenes for the operettas at Joliet East Highschool. He retired from Caterpillar after 36 years as a superintendent of maintenance to pursue his hobbies and be an integral part of his children's family's lives. We will honor his service to our country with a ceremony at the Abraham Lincoln Cemetary, according to his wishes.

We extend a very special thank you to the Joliet Lightways- their support and care for Ron during his last days brought comfort and peace. It's not goodbye, it's "See you later!".
