Obituary

Ruth Marie Johnson was called home on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She was 97 years young and lived a life fueled by service and love. Ruth was born June 25th, 1924 and grew up in rural Wisconsin on a dairy farm. She attended Bruce High School. Once married, Ruth and DeVere moved to Joliet, IL where they started a family and Ruth organized a 4-H club in her own neighborhood and became a lifelong member of the Crystal Unit Homemakers. Ruth fostered a close relationship with the Lord and spent a significant portion of her time helping others do the same. She served with Child Evangelism Fellowship, taught Sunday School, and was a member of Christian Women's Club. She was a member of Faith Bible Church and was known as "Camp Grandma" at Camp Good News. She had the greenest of thumbs and enjoyed preparing exquisite meals for her family, somehow without ever consulting a recipe. Survived by her brother Art (Bunny) Ryall and was a devoted mother to Bruce (Karen) Johnson of Plainfield, IL., Lori (Kevin) Manley of New Braunfels, Texas, Lex (Oksana) Johnson of Joliet, IL., Cheryl (Tom) Young of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Kurt (Trish) Johnson of Mazon, IL; cherished grandmother to Ryan and Tricia Johnson, Lindsay Bailey, Mallory Sinitzki, Natalie Brown, Janel Manley and Laina Johnson; five great grandchildren Mathew, Joey, Jake, Benson, and Ava. Preceded in death by her husband DeVere Johnson, parents Edna and Isaac Ryall, her sister Evelyn Kulibert who she loved dearly, and her grandson Nathan Manley. Funeral services will be held at Faith Bible Church, 1600 E. Schuster Street, Joliet, on Friday, May 20th 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bob DeKlavon is officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials to Child Evangelism Fellowship 3 Rivers Chapter in Shorewood will be appreciated.
