Steven M. Szabo – of Crest Hill, went home to Jesus on April 29, 2021 after a long and courageous battle. He died peacefully at home. Age 74 years. He is survived by his loving wife Martha (Owen Ballard) Szabo, his children Stephani (Stan) Cordano, Sherri (Randy) Ohler, Brett (Keirsten) Szabo, step-children DeAnna (Gregg) Ballard-Steinhauser, Tina (Bobby) Ballard, Carrie (Mark) Dolbee, twelve grandchildren Mia (Jack) Tran, Griffin Cordano, October (Rich) McClure, Ivy (Aaron) Watkins Szabo, Cheney Ohler, Abby and Matthew Szabo, Blake (Shelly) Roberts, Bailey and Frankie Roberts, Kamrin and Kaden Dolbee, two great-grandchildren Ella and Zoey, as well as his sister Carol Domingo and two nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Emery (1998) and Caroline "Judy" Szabo (1998) (Hobart, IN) and his brother James (1994). 'Papa" Steve was a hard working entrepreneur and family man who will be remembered by many for his love for coaching (kids football), fishing (anytime, anywhere), his homemade lasagna, abundantly generous heart, and most of all, his dedication to serving Jesus and wanting to teach others about Him right up until his last day. He will live on as an example to all, of what it means to have unwavering faith in spite of life's storms. All attending the visitation or service at the funeral home must wear facial covering and practice social distancing. Visitation will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory 2320 Black Road, Joliet, IL. Thursday May 6, 2021 from 1:00 to 3:00 until time of services at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers memorials to the family will be appreciated.
