Violet Floyd Lindstrom
Gambrel
July 16, 1923 – September 14, 2023
Violet Floyd Lindstrom Gambrel, age 100, passed peacefully at her home in Joliet on 9/14/23. She was surrounded by loving family and crossed over while listening to her grandson sing "On Eagle's Wings." She was born 7/16/1923 in Joliet to Inez Smith Floyd and Oren A. Floyd. She graduated from Joliet Township High School and then worked for the Teamsters' Office in Joliet as a bookkeeper/secretary, and during WWII as a "hopper driver" while the men were at the war. Violet also worked many years as an election judge.
Violet was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver, and homemaker, with her family especially enjoying her homemade divinity and products of her creative sewing hobby. Throughout her life, she enjoyed bowling, sewing, crafts, and especially time with her family.
She was an Inservice Volunteer for Silver Cross Hospital for many years and a member of the Will County Union of King's Daughters and Sons (Jennie Lee King's Daughters Circle) for over 50 years. She was a very active member of Ingalls Park United Methodist Church in Joliet and a member of their Hannah Circle of the Women's Society.
She was preceded in death by husbands Leslie "Skee" Lindstrom ('68) and Leo "Budd" Gambrel ('94), children, Jeffrey Walter Lindstrom ('73), Pamela (George Kosiara) Lindstrom ('98), Roger Gambrel (2010), and Paul Gambrel (2017), grandson, Alex Hart ('87), brothers, Joseph Floyd, Marion "Frank" (Betty Bloom) Floyd, Clyde (Sara White) Floyd, Lawrence (Jennie Ann Elliot) Floyd, and a special aunt, Ruth (Howard) Wartenberg.
Violet is survived by three of her children, Debra Lindstrom, Donald (Lorraine) Lindstrom, Linda Gambrel (dec. James) Hart, one brother, Bill (dec. Shirley) Floyd of Bourbonais, and two sisters, Mary (dec. Gerald) Peterson of Belvedere and Ruth (dec. Bill) Burns of Bourbonais. Her eight grandchildren, Brett Gambrel, Justin (Lauren) Hart, Nick Hart, Amanda Hazel (Alec) Bashore, Kristin Lindstrom, Emily Hazel (Tony) Mitchell, Jeff (Magen) Lindstrom, and Eric Lindstrom. She is also survived by her five great grandchildren, Madalyn Smart, Harbar and Hazen Lindstrom and Atlas and Finn Bashore in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
Per Violet's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial Service will be held at Ingalls Park United Methodist Church, 105 Davison St. Joliet, on 9/30/23. Visitation with the family is at 1:00 pm with the service at 2:00 pm.
