Michael A. Sayles Funeral Director / Owner

Mike is a second generation funeral director with the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home. This year will mark 35 years for him with the firm. A life long Joliet resident, Mike graduated from Joliet Township High School West and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He is Past President of the Will County Funeral Association and Past Vice-President of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association. His memberships include the Joliet Noon Lion's Club, Joliet Regional Airport Board Member, Former President of Oakwood Cemetery and President of Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory. Mike has two son's . Nicholas, who is a Airport Managing Agent for Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Michael, who is a Fireman/Paramedic with the Gwinette County Fire Department in Georgia.

Richard joined the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home Staff in December 2014. He has been an Illinois Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer since 1974. Rich was born in Joliet on July 31, 1952 the son of George and Virginia (nee Faletti) Tapella. His parents established the Tapella Family Funeral business in 1948 and cultivated Rich's interest in the funeral profession at an early age. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Joliet Catholic High School, Class of 1970. After attending Joliet Junior college, he enrolled in the renowned Worsham College of Mortuary Science and graduated with the Albert E. Worsham Memorial Award for the highest GPA of his class. He returned to Joliet and served as an apprentice funeral director/embalmer with his father and then subsequently became a fully licensed practitioner in funeral service. In his early beginning, Rich honed his skills working for many local Joliet funeral homes in the area as a funeral director and embalmer. In 1985, Rich established the Haley-Tapella Funeral Home Ltd and merged the two well-known family funeral businesses operating at the Haley Funeral Home location on Center Street in Joliet. In 1989, Rich had the opportunity to purchase the Westwood Memorial Chapel on West Jefferson Street and was the principal owner until 2002. Rich's funeral service management experience expanded in 2002, when he became the Director of Catholic Cemeteries for the 21 diocesan cemeteries for the Diocese of Joliet. In December of 2014, Rich proudly re-entered the funeral service field with the well-known and respected Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home. Rich's career has come full-circle and he is proud to have served and will continue to serve many families in their time of need at his new location. Rich is married to the former Lynn Smeets for 46 years and the proud father of Bryan James and daughter-in-law, Theresa. Rich and Lynn are proud grandparents of one granddaughter, Arya Reagan Tapella. Rich is currently a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church and has been involved in several local organizations over the years. He has been the organizer and facilitator of numerous funeral service continuing education seminars and clergy conferences related to the funeral service and cemetery industry.

Marysue Reardon Funeral Director

We are pleased to have Marysue join our staff starting in September of 2013. She has over 22 years of experience within funeral service. Marysue is a life long Joliet resident and a member of the Cathedral of St. Raymond. In her spare time she enjoy's cross stitch, walking and spending time with her two children Kevin and Katherine.

Craig is a second generation funeral director with the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home. Craig and his wife Terri are life long Joliet residents.
